RAPPAHANNOCK RIFLES: Unless otherwise noted all enlisted July 22, 1861, "for one year" at Davis Barracks, Washington, Virginia. Company reported to 49th Regiment of Virginia Volunteers at Manassas, Virginia August 1, 1861; reorganized April 30, 1862. Names appear on a roll of company G made out by Orderly Sergeant H. Judson Miller at Camp Godwin near Sutherlin Depot in Dinwiddie County, Virginia on February 21, 1865.
Commissioned Officers:
Captain George Curtis Vanderslice. Attended Washington College 1852-1853 (now Washington and Lee). He was an ordained Methodist minister and served as Chaplain as well as Captain. Dropped from Roll at reorganization April 30, 1862.
First Lieutenant Robert A. Wisecarver. Dropped from roll at reorganization April 30, 1862.
First Lieutenant Henry Ashford Wood. Enlisted July 22, 1861 as Sergeant. Promoted to Second Lieutenant April 13, 1863. Resigned as First Lieutenant December 28, 1864 because Company G could muster only three enlisted fro duty at that time (see company K). Merchant and farmer in Rappahannock County, Virginia after the war.
First Lieutenant William A. McQueen. Enlisted as Sergeant July 22, 1861. Promoted to First Lieutenant April 30, 1862. wounded at Sharpsburg. Resigned November 27, 1863.
Second Lieutenant Charles B. Wood. Commissioned July 22, 1861. Not re-elected and resigned April 30, 1862.
Third Lieutenant William D. Moffett.
First Lieutenant Will Jesse (or J. Wm.) Dudley. Enlisted as 3rd Sergeant. Promoted to Second Lieutenant April 30, 1862. wounded at 1st Fredericksburg. Promoted to First Lieutenant November 27, 1863. Wounded September 11, 1864. Was still on inspection report as wounded January 28, 1865. Killed April 2, 1865.
Second Lieutenant Charles Fl Miller. Enlisted as Corporal; promoted to Second Lieutenant April 6, 1862. wounded at Sharpsburg; captured in assault on Fort Stedman; released from Fort Delaware May 30, 1865.
Second Lieutenant James P. Colbert. Promoted from Fourth Corporal to Second Lieutenant. Wounded in battle of King's School House, Virginian. Killed at 1st Fredericksburg.
Third Lieutenant Mark R. Fristoe. Absent on detached service at Provost Marshal's office November 14, 1861. Elected Second Lieutenant December 1, 1864. Wounded at Gettysburg. Paroled at Appomattox. Also Brigade Ordnance Officer.

Fourth Sergeant Samuel F. Baker. Promoted to 4th Sergeant April 30, 1862. Wounded at Seven Pines. On detailed duty April 3, 1864. Paroled at Appomattox.
Second Sergeant David S. Browning. Promoted to 4th Corporal April 30, 1862. Wounded at New Market road June 30, 1862. Promoted to 3rd Sergeant November 1863. Captured in action at Cedar Creek. Exchanged from Point Lookout March 17, 1865.
Second Sergeant Virginius Brown. Second Sergeant April 30, 1862. Wounded in engagement at Winchester, Virginia June 14-14, 1863. Wounded at Gettysburg. Buried in Confederate section of the Spotsylvania Court House, Virginia Cemetery.
Fifth Sergeant George E. Carter. Promoted to Fifth Sergeant April 30, 1862. Killed at Gettysburg.
Third Sergeant Oscar R. Colbert. On detailed service Provost Marshal's Office November 14, 1861. Wounded at Sharpsburg, Winchester and in the Wilderness.
Sergeant John M. Cooksey. Paroled April 29, 1865 at Winchester, Virginia.
Second Sergeant Jeffries Cordor. Wounded and captured at Seven Pines. Exchanged from Fort Delaware August 5, 1862. Promoted Second Sergeant April 30, 1862. Wounded at Bethesda Church and Hatcher's Run. Furloughed from Chimborazo Hospital No. 2 on February26, 1865 for 35 days. Paroled at Appomattox.
Third Sergeant William Dudley. Promoted Third Sergeant September, 1861. On detached service February, 1862.
Fourth Sergeant Samuel W. Harris. Enlisted April 30, 1862. Promoted from Corporal to Fourth Sergeant. Captured in assault on Fort Stedman; released from Point Lookout June14, 1865.

COMMENTS:
Muster records show that on Friday, November 27, 1863, Company G marched to Mine Run, where it remained in line of battle until December 3, 1863, when it was ordered to Somerville Ford and to build Winter Quarters there.
